Authorities in Adjumani Town Council have officially named 24 roads after prominent individuals and launched the installation of road signposts in an effort to recognise citizens who have made significant contributions to the development of Adjumani District.
The roads have been named after politicians, technical officers, business leaders, religious figures and other distinguished personalities whose service has impacted the community over the years.
Speaking during the launch ceremony, Adjumani Town Council Chairperson Lawrence Mangapi said the initiative was designed to honour individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving the district and the country.
“We felt it was important to recognise men and women who have played a key role in transforming our community. Naming roads after them is a way of preserving their legacy and ensuring that future generations appreciate their contribution to society,” Mangapi said.
He added that beyond recognition, the project will also improve navigation within the town council while strengthening local identity and historical awareness.
“The road signs will help residents and visitors easily identify locations, but more importantly, they will remind us of the people whose efforts helped shape Adjumani into what it is today,” he noted.
Adjumani Town Council Speaker Dominic Mapke Zevule described the exercise as a historic milestone, saying it reflects the council’s commitment to preserving the district’s heritage.
“This is not merely about putting names on roads. It is about documenting our history and giving recognition to individuals whose contributions deserve to be remembered. As leaders, we have a responsibility to celebrate those who have served our people with distinction,” Zevule said.
Adjumani Town Clerk Patrick Keleture Eriku commended the council for implementing the initiative, noting its importance in urban planning and service delivery.
“The installation of road signs is a significant step towards organised urban development. It will improve addressing systems, support emergency response services and enhance the overall administration of the town council,” Eriku explained.
Residents and local leaders who attended the launch welcomed the initiative, describing it as a fitting tribute to community heroes and an important step in preserving the district’s history for future generations.
